Abstract

The present work brings an interview with Professor Doctor Dario Fiorentini, one of the greatest mathematics educators in Brazil, a reference in the area of ??training and professional development of teachers who teach Mathematics. The choice for the interview with Professor Dario was due to his long academic career and his immense contribution to scientific research in the area of ??Brazilian Mathematics Education. Internationally recognized, Dario Fiorentini retired in 2022 and still continues to develop studies and investigations that directly influence the teaching practice of professionals who work with teacher training and the teaching of Mathematics in Basic Education and Higher Education. Born in Santa Rosa, in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Dario has been linked to the Faculty of Education at the State University of Campinas, in São Paulo since August 1988. The interview begins by addressing his school career and interest in Mathematics, highlighting also relevant aspects of his formative process for his academic practice, his interest in studies and research in the area of ??training teachers who teach Mathematics, discussing professional teaching development, collaborative groups as training spaces, narrative research, advances and challenges from academic research to the training of Mathematics teachers and their practices. Due to his vast experience, without a doubt, Dario leaves us here a great legacy of knowledge to be explored and consequently expanded by all researchers in the field of Mathematics Education.
